Our History

Originally formed by the employees of Mead Paper Mill (Domtar) in Kingsport, TN, in 1932, the Appalachian Community Federal Credit Union of today is pleased to serve any persons who live, work, worship or attend school in Carter, Hawkins, Sullivan, Unicoi or Washington Counties, Tennessee, as well as the city of Bristol, TN/VA, the city of Norton, VA, and Wise, Scott and Washington Counties, Virginia.

ACFCU is a safe, sound, strong not-for-profit financial cooperative with each of our members' deposits insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA)

Meet the Leadership Team

  • Kelly J. Smith, President & CEO
    Kelly Smith joined ACFCU in 2018, and assumed responsibilities as President/CEO in May 2019. Smith is a seasoned marketing and strategy executive with over 20 years in the credit union industry. Smith is responsible for assuring the continued success and stability of Appalachian Community Federal Credit Union.
  • Vicki Gobble, Chief Operations Officer/Chief Financial Officer
    Vicki Gobble is a key leader on the ACFCU team, serving as both Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer. Gobble joined ACFCU in June 2019 and brings many years of experience in nearly every operational area of financial services, from compliance and accounting, to strategy and service.
  • Andrew J. Mullins III, Chief Lending Officer
    With almost 40 years of lending experience in Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee, Andy Mullins joined the ACFCU team in August of 2020. Having served on the management teams of two local community banks during the past two decades, he brings a wealth of experience in most all aspects of today’s financial services industry. Mullins, along with the rest of the lending team, is dedicated to ensuring that the ACFCU membership receives the highest level of service available while helping them meet their financial goals.
  • Nikki Greene, Vice President, Information Technology
    Nikki Greene joined ACFCU in March 2020 and brings a no-nonsense approach to solving all technology challenges. She also has extensive experience in business, leadership, training and service.
  • Amy-Celeste Quillen, Ph.D., Director of Human Resources
    Amy-Celeste Quillen joined ACFCU in July 2020 bringing more than 20 years of human capital management experience across various sectors and industries including government, transit, consulting, education and retail industries.  
  • Miranda Gray Cooper, Director of Marketing
    Miranda Cooper brings extensive knowledge in marketing, communication and business development in the financial services and education industries.  With more than 20 years of experience, she joined ACFCU in February 2021.
