Race Earns Financial Counselor Designation

Appalachian Community Federal Credit Union (ACFCU) is proud to announce Rogersville Branch Manager Misti Race has earned the Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor (CCUFC) designation through the Enhanced Financial Counselor Certification Program offered by the Tennessee Credit Union League.

The program equips credit union staff with proven skills to help members better manage their finances. The curriculum covers topics such as financial counseling essentials, special issues, taxes, insurance, investments, controlling expenses, and retirement preparedness.  Modeled after the CUNA Certified Financial Counselor Schools, participants who successfully complete the coursework and pass the proctored exam are awarded the CCUFC designation, preparing them to guide members toward achieving their financial goals.

“I’m excited to put my new skills as a Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor to work helping our members feel confident and in control of their finances,” Race said. “I look forward to listening to their stories, understanding their goals, and finding practical ways to help them overcome challenges. Being able to guide and encourage people, while living out the credit union’s mission of ‘people helping people,’ is something I’m truly passionate about.”

Her dedication to service extends far beyond the credit union. In June 2024, Race was honored with the Volunteer of the Year award by the Rogersville Hawkins County Chamber of Commerce for her outstanding commitment to the community. She currently serves on the Chamber’s board of directors.

Race is also a driving force behind the revitalization of the Rogersville Rotary Club. When she joined in 2022, membership had dwindled to just five members, and the district had suggested disbanding the chapter. Within less than a year, she became president, leading the club to double its membership and stay active in community projects. Under her leadership, the club organized candidate meet-and-greets for local elections and took on multiple service initiatives. She recently received the President’s Award from Rotary District 6780 Assistant Director Todd Quillen for her role in rebuilding the club. She now serves as the club’s fundraiser chair.

“Whether in her work at ACFCU or in her volunteer roles, Misti’s leadership and commitment to people is unwavering,” said Andy Mullins, ACFCU President and CEO. “We are proud to have her on Team Appy, serving our members and our community.”

Race brings more than 13 years of credit union experience to her role and joined ACFCU in May 2018 as the Rogersville branch manager. She resides in Whitesburg, Tennessee, with her husband, Lee.
